Biography

Dr Joline Lim is a medical oncologist at Curie Oncology, and visiting consultant at National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS). Her primary clinical and research interests are in female cancers especially breast oncology, and early phase clinical trials with a special focus on novel anti-cancer therapeutic agents and biomarkers.

Prior to joining private practice, Dr Lim served as senior consultant at the NCIS, clinician scientist at the Cancer Science Institute, Singapore, and assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore.

Dr Lim graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore in 2007, and commenced her basic specialist training in NUH. This phase of training, which saw her conferred the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) in Internal Medicine in 2010, culminated in her being appointed as the Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine Residency
Program. She subsequently pursued a year of research training under Professor Daniel Tenen and Dr Li Chai at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre / Brigham and Women Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Upon returning to Singapore, she completed her advanced specialist training in medical oncology at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, where she was appointed as the Senior Chief Resident of Medical Oncology and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Medical Oncology) in 2015.

Dr Lim has a keen interest in translational research involving novel anti-tumour therapies including molecular targeted agents and immunotherapies, and the application of emerging predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers. To pursue this interest further, she has completed advanced training in early phase drug development at the Royal Marsden Hospital in the United Kingdom as a National Medical Research Council Research (NMRC) Training Fellow. Her efforts in novel combination strategies in breast cancer led to her being awarded the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award in 2017 and Transitional Award from the NMRC.

A strong advocate that patients should not only live longer but also better, she is active in survivorship care research including scalp and limb cooling methodologies to decrease chemotherapy induced toxicities. She is a lead investigator in active studies looking into peripheral cryocompression to reduce chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, a novel device that is aimed at reducing toxicity profile and improving quality of life for patients.

Dr Lim continues to play an active role in international, multi-centre clinical trials and serves as both principal and co-investigator. Her research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer Discovery, and Annals of Oncology.

She is the immediate past chairperson of the Chapter of Medical Oncology, College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine Singapore, an executive committee member of the Singapore Society of Oncology, and current chairperson of a National Healthcare Group (NHG) Domain Specific Research Board (DSRB) domain and member of the NHG Research Ethics Committee.
