Biography
Dr Ho Gwo Fuang, professor and clinical oncologist, completed his Certificate for Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2007. Since then, he joined the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya and held positions at both the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre and UM Specialist Centre for 17 years.
In 2009, Dr Ho received the Joint Commission International (JCI) Outstanding Young Malaysian Award for medical innovation. His educational background includes a BSc (Medical Science) from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland (1995), an MB ChB (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) from the University of Manchester, UK (1998), an MRCP from The Royal College Of Physicians, Edinburgh, UK (2001), and an FRCR from The Royal College Of Radiologists, London, UK (2005). His training took place at Barts and The London National Health Service (NHS) Trust and The Royal Marsden NHS Trust in London.
Dr Ho’s research interests focused on cancer therapeutics, including chemotherapy, biological therapy, targeted therapy, radiotherapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and radio-isotopes treatment. He authored books such as “Cancer and You” (2015) and “Written for Cancer Patient” (2014). Additionally, he co-authored the Pan-Asian Adapted ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for hepatocellular carcinoma (2020) and ASCO Resource Stratified Guideline for Early Detection for Colorectal Cancer (2019), as well as the Treatment of Patients with Early Stage Colorectal Cancer Resource Stratified Guideline (2019). Dr Ho actively participated in national and international collaborative research and contributed to the training of new oncologists in Malaysia.
