Dr Lynette Ngo recently gave two breast cancer awareness talks on 13 and 20 August 2022. The talk was on the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Singapore and was organized by the 365 Cancer Prevention Society.
Dr Ngo wants women to know that the five-year survival rates of breast cancer have significantly improved over the years with the advances in breast cancer management and medication. In particular, the availability of HER2-targeted therapies and the response in recent years have been excellent.
Aside from breast cancer treatment, the lifestyle and diet of Singaporean women play an important role too. High-fat diet, reduced fruits and vegetables intake, and lack of exercise are some of the factors contributing to the higher incidence of breast cancer in Singapore. Dr Ngo would often advise her cancer patients to adjust their lifestyle and diet to reduce their risk of recurrence.
